Research : Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Pharmaceutical Chemistry laboratory is designed and equipped with several state of the art technologies like synthesis and purification of chemical compounds, analysis of biological samples, identification of impurities, interpretation of spectral data etc. The department focusses on basic approaches to drug discovery, designing and development. The department also imparts knowledge in the field of Pharmaceutical analysis that includes UV-Visible, HPLC and different chromatographic methods. The faculties are involved in the extensive use of modern audio-visual teaching aids to make the practical interesting and student centric. The motive is to enable the students to understand and apply the principles involved in the quality medicines.

The departmental research activities are presently focused in the following areas:

  • Synthesis and purification of chemical compounds

  • Analysis of biological samples viz., urine, blood etc.

  • Testing and identification of various impurities.

  • Application of different Chromatographic techniques viz., TLC, HPTLC, HPLC.

  • Interpretation of spectral data viz., 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FT-IR, Mass Spectrometry.

  • Basic approaches to Drug Discovery, Computational Chemistry, Molecular modelling etc.

  • Handling of various instruments viz., rotary evaporators, polarimeters, electroanalytical instruments, Flame photometer etc.

  • Validation of developed methods.
